Hmm.. sometimes it won't fail for a few hours... sometimes it happens right 
away, within 30-40 seconds or so.

I source from winamp 2.73 with the 1.8.0 dsp..

I tried winamp, sonique and freeamp all as clients... they all exhibited it 
after a while.  I'm most concerned with winamp though, probably 95% + of 
the clients that connect to my stream are running winamp.
