Well, you need some sort of protocol in addition to RTP to setup and
control the session. Standalone SDP descriptors can only be used for
multicast streams. There are several usable alternatives, RTSP is one of
them and absolutely no necessity for this to work. AFAIK, other session
setup/control protocols also have the possibility to push new SDP
descriptors to the client if necessary.
