I believe their official comment was something in the lines of: "We
fear for submarine patents in Vorbis.  Here, use our AAC.  Isn't it a
cool name?  Look, shining colors!"

Mr McGettigan, you may use Vorbis and other Xiph formats like Speex
and FLAC on your iPod, through the use of a new firmware.  Check the
Rockbox web site for more details.
