Great news.

I would highly recommend anyone adding Theora+Vorbis support to
webapplications seriously consider adopting the multi-method approach
we've taken on Wikipedia.

You can see the code to the new, and not yet in production use, of our
formulation of this in the MediaWiki oggplay extension:
http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/OggHandler/

I think that, in particular, support for the HTML5 <video/> tag is
important today because having it will bootstrap the upcoming support
in browsers.

Java playback works for a reasonably large number of users already and
is IMHO much better than installing a bunch of QT stuff. ... but HTML5
browser based support is the fast-track path to getting penetration
closer to flash's.

With the multi-method approach we currently get working playback for
roughly 3/4 of the IPs who try it... We've had over a million distinct
IPs playing Ogg video or audio from Wikimedia sites in the last couple
months that we've supported multi-method+java playback.
