It's been a long time since that happened, and my memory isn't all that
great, but I'm pretty sure they did indeed allow for the serial numbers to
be different.

I'm pretty sure it was in the encoding itself.  They actually compared the
decoded pcm.  (Or specified the serial number to use, and then compared the
vorbis file.)

But, I don't follow HA every day, and sometimes not for weeks at a time, and
I don't read every message, so it is possible that I missed the "Eureka!"
message where they fixed everything.

But the last I heard, there had been some problems of some sort and they
were giving up.  That's been a while and maybe they fixed it though.
