Actually the paper only examines the boost effect provoked
by quantization. There's also a boost affect provoked by the
lossy stereo coupling in quality modes below 6.
According to Monty's response he's working on fixing both
issues for the next release.
You may also want to test some (experimental) encoder versions
by Quantum Knot (aka Steven So) and others which try to reduce
the point-stereo energy boost effect. Some of these have proven
to be better than the official encoder by using double blind
tests. (check out www.hydrogenaudio.org for more details)
