If you have two 128kbps files, one stereo, one mono, the mono file has
roughly twice the bits to allocate to "each" channel. You'd have to get up
over 200kbps to get a stereo file that sounds that good. Depends on how much
the channels differ, I suppose.
Perhaps that explains what you're hearing?
