[vorbis] Choosing a processor

Joane, I have a P3 866 MHz at home and with that I am able to both RIP and
ENCODE
a CD using the LAME VBR MP3 encoder in about 50% of the time required to
actually play
the CD (i.e. if a CD is 60 min long, I can usually both rip and encode it in
under 30 min).

So, my guess is that any P3 with enough RAM should be more than enough for
real-time encoding, both under MP3 and Ogg Vorbis (not sure if the ogg
encoder is as optimized speedwise as LAME recently).

Good luck,

Jacek

Subject: [vorbis] Choosing a processor

Hello!

I am about to buy a new computer, and because encoding/decoding .ogg files
is the most processor intensive thing I intend to regularly do, I would like

to know which is the "recommended" processor for real-time encoding (I
record my favourite radio shows).

TIA!

Bye,

Joane Lispton

PS: I receive the FM radio stations through my cable (the one which brings
me cable TV), which has a _really_ good sound quality, which I would like to

preserve. So I wish to do real-time encoding in a way that isn't too lossy
(perhaps the one used when reading from CDs? or is that an overkill?); is
this possible on regular (non-SMP) PCs? I never used Ogg Vorbis before...
