If you want a lossless format, try Monkey's Audio (http://www.monkeysaudio.com). Resulting files are two-third smaller than the originals. Useful if (as me) you don't care about listening music on audio gear except computer. I personnalyuse APE for archiving purposes and Mp3pro (or the most compressing format I find) for everyday listening. When a new format is coming on the streets, I just need to reencode my Monkey's audio files!
