[vorbis] Basic mathematics

What is the basic mathematics behind the sound compressions technique 
used in Ogg vorbis?

I am not asking for formulas, I just need name, a reference to more 
information. Maybe a hyperlink to somewhere?

Do formats like MP3 and AAC, and Ogg vorbis basically use the same 
mathematics with different parameters, perhaps?
