You can download TAC demo 4 (but v5 should appear
soon, they've been announcing it for a while now).
But MP+ is better IMO. In fact I think MP+ is currently
one of the best sounding formats in 128-256kbps area, though
vorbis is getting closer. :-) But vorbis has other advantages
over MP+ like streaming and is also suitable for low bitrates.
Oh yeah, and it's completely free. :-))

They probably aren't, but since they are closed source you can't be 100%
sure. :)
