[vorbis] Vorbis and Real

Hello Vorbmaniacs;

The Christmas issue of Network World has "Power Prognosticators"
which includes in

http://www.nwfusion.com/power2000/power-prog/streaming.html

the following :

"The recent release of RealAudio 8 can deliver
          near CD-quality sound over a 32K bit/sec connection,
two-thirds the bandwidth used by RealAudio 7. Similar
strides are being made with video."

There is no mention, alas, of Vorbis.

I have heard this "near CD quality" claim repeated over and over in the press.
Now, I have downloaded RP8 and listened to it, and, while it is pretty good
for the bandwidth, it is NOT CD quality, not even close.

Like it or not, MP3 and Fraunhofer are not the only competition to
Vorbis -
it is even possible the courts will thwart the Fraunhofer IIS-A's
attempt to
require stream licenses. Real exists, is proprietary, and ALREADY
provides direct competition.
(We have found, for example, that Real includes clauses in webcasting
support
contracts that do not allow experimentation with "alternative technologies.")

Would it make sense to have Real8 - Vorbis listening comparisons
publicly promoted ?
How about making the point that 32 kbps R8 is not CD quality ? I just
feel sometime that there is too much attention paid to MP3's, and not
enough to
Real, as what Vorbis is the alternative to.

                                   Regards
                                   Marshall Eubanks
