TwinVQ is not part of AAC in any way. TwinVQ and AAC are parts of MPEG-4
natural audio.

The joint stereo as used in mp+ (M/S stereo) is covered by an AT7T patent
prior to the FHG ones. This is probably the reason.
Of course a patent on M/S is highly discutable, as M/S is used since decades
in stereo microphones.
