It's often used as an excuse to rob your of your money (such as 'low jitter'
super expensive s/pdif cables), but that doesn't make it any less of a real
effect.

It's a fact, if your D/A is clocked from some external source insted of
being locked to a high accuracy reference it makes a clear audible
difference. It's also a fact that most D/As out there are clocked either
from their source or a really poor internal clock and that most buffers are
only sufficent to stop bit errors.

You can clearly measure the jitter of a D/A by using a set of signals like I
described in a prior email.
