WMA seems to have quite limited applications. It's limited to bitrate of
5kbps-128kbps. It seems some hardware vendors are starting to produce DSP
chips with WMA, so they must be convinced enough about its industrial and
embedded applications.
The only technical detail I have been able to find about WMA codec is that
it supposedly uses vector quantization like TwinVQ.
What kind of patents are there for wavelet transform in audio
applications?
