I meant relative to an eight channel Vorbis file, since I understand
there is no channel coupling for files with more than two channels in
current Vorbis encoders (please correct me if I'm wrong about that). For
instance a stereo bassline file may contain very little stereo
information, so it could be a good candidate for reducing file size
through channel coupling.

We have to weigh up the pros and cons of defining a new format, compared
with using the existing eight channel Vorbis file which is already
supported in cross-platform GUI programs like Audacity and Reaper. The
target audience (DJs) may not have experience with command-line
encoders, and we don't want to put them off by making the format too
complicated to use.

Cheers!

Daniel
