Why not make use of a text field? One character per channel. That way you
could also have "AB" for Blumlein stereo and "12" for dual channel.

(Incidentally, you don't need a separate representation for middle/side, as
Ambisonic's "WX" is equivalent.)

The disadvantage to that is that it puts a strain on the decoder to unravel
the channel mapping, as it would be legal to have "XYW" as a mapping.
