Because they link with a specific version, and simply ship the needed
runtime DLLs with the SDK. (As usual, Microsoft installers stomp all
over your system directory, replacing such files with their own
version). Obviously you don't want to be as intrusive as them. :)

Well, if they choose the latter, they will also have to only use the
officially supported development environment(s)...
