Actually, Winamp 2.81 will play files that have been rared or zipped.  Go 
figure.  :-)

Grab http://www.blorp.com/~peter/zips/read_file.zip for the only 
documentation that I know of on the subject.  I think it was originally 
built for people who wanted to save space with collections of midis or 
other (exotic) sound formats that compressed well.
