You're probably right. But I remember I saw something a year ago, but I
don't remember the name of it and when I search the web I find nothing.. It
was not an SBR open source, but a technology similar to SBR - hopefully
patentfree. Maybe the project stopped because of difficult patent issues?
Anyone knows which project I'm talking about?

My understanding is that SBR is extremely heavily patented, so even
if there were an open source project, it could not be used freely
with vorbis, so it'd be effectively useless.
