I was using majordomo on my user group's server since 1994, and it was
always a pain trying to manage it. Last year I built a new server to
replace it, and I installed Mailman instead of majordomo, and it was
a huge improvement. Add-ons like list archives and a web interface were
part of the basic system instead of something I had to bolt on the side
by hand. Subscribers could set options like nomail, digest, etc, rather
than having to set up multiple lists for each of these, like I had to do
with majordomo.

I've been very happy with Mailman.
