Thank you all for the answers to my silly question. You *really* solved my
problem... more than that.

Yea, I see.
Now that I know, that my use of -b was wrong, I made some testing, using some
different values for -q. Just let me say: with your development of an audio
codec, you are beyond mp3! Ogg is definitely better! Even with -q 1 (which
resulted in an avg bitrate of 85 kbit/s with my full version of joy.wav) I
got really good results. My Athlon-750 reached a decoding rate of around 3. I
did not get lame to produce such a good output with such a low bitrate. Lame
was even a lot slower (not even real-time).
As soon as you know ogg vorbis, you know that mp3 sucks!
