Maybe make it fixed but let the user say that he wants only a small
portion and choose a random portion.  The idea is that most people
wouldn't want to devote 160 hours to this, even split accross many
sessions.  This way you can make everyone devote 1 hour and collect the
same overall picture from many people.  It only works however if the
data you look for can be independently averaged/statistically analyzed
for each portion - it will fail you you need some self-correlation of
the data by each person and anylyze this.
