Hello folks,
Recently more and more messages are being killed by xiph.org's postfix
anti-spam filter, followed by pleading messages from the author to
'unban' them :-) There's no banning on the group, but the anti-spam
filter doesn't take prisoners.
Remember these tips:
Mail in HTML format is unceremoniously dropped on the floor. You will
not be informed it has been dropped, and I will not be informed it was
dropped. This alone eliminates 2/3 of the spam that would otherwise
clog the list. (You are not informed in order that the mail hub isn't
spending half it's spool on reject messages queud for forged spam
addresses).
Mail with no 'To:' address is dropped. You will not be informed and
neither will I. This takes care of the largest remaining chunk of
spam in which the recipient addresses are hidden in Bcc or something
else. Folks that are using anti-spam services to both strip off
visible to: and from: addresses are causing their mail to look like
spam to most mail servers with anti-spam filters. Anyone in the habit
of 'Bcc:' instead of 'To:' will get what they deserve.
Messages that look like administration requests (a majordomo command
on the first line or two) are rejected. This is arguably a bug in the
way majordomo is designed (If you can really call it a 'design') but
that's the way things are now.
