Well, we've been going off on a tangent just because the searchable
database part was a perfect example of what NOT to include in a
multimedia standard.

I also complained about objects because they seem to obscure the purpose
of the standard too.  My point is that a multimedia standard should be
defined for the sole purpose of improving audio/video encoding
technology.  DivX (piracy, the fact that it's just a hack, etc. etc. at
nauseum aside) is a good example of what I mean.  Better lossy
compression through better algorithms.  None of this unnecessary objects
or searchable databases crap, just higher quality video and at lower
bitrates.
