To me the sensible solution to identifying music would go something like
this:
Create a collection of digital music (in MP3/Vorbis/whatever).
Enter all of the relevant info about each piece of music into a database
(I prefer mySQL).
Run a program like TruePrint on every piece of digital music.
Associate the TruePrint results with the music entries in the mySQL
database.
UI can be done with PHP, Perl, or whatever.
So, the same task is accomplished, but now the database work isn't
spaghetti-coded with the digital media formats. On a whim I could add
support for shins (shorten lossless codec) and because the database work
was done at the appropriate level it's no problem.
