I disagree. the -config scripts are a nice/easy way to get things such as the
prefix, cflags, and ldflags of the installed package.

You may argue that there are the *.m4 macro stuff (recently added), but not
everyone uses autoconf. 

I do not think the *-config are a problem (considering they provide useful
functionality for some people). Do you have a technical reason for wishing to
remove them? ;)
