[Video at Xiph] codec quality test

I don't think this is exactly what you're looking for, but I'll throw it
out anyway.
For a class that I teach on video editing, I wrote a program that presents
the output from different encoders (all currently in ffmpeg, but the code
could be hacked to use other command line encoders) to the user for manual
comparison.
Here's an example of the page comparing it all:

There's lossless png images of individual frame captures that you can
compare. There is also a comparison tool which is a bit of javascript that
will cycle through a selection of the various frames, so you can visually
see the differences:

Like I said this is more of a tool to demonstrate the differences in codecs
than to actually test their quality. Anyway, the source code is available
