Real time encoding requires alot of processing power...
Why not use a floating point DSP for encoding? (like the Texas Instruments C6713)

Subject: [tremor] Integer Encoder?

I am thinking about trying to do a PVR type device for
audio. Is there any plans to do an encoder for integer
devices? I would be willing to help out except I am a
hardware guy and know very little about software dev.
