The mplayer might be a nice alternative on the Mac. However you have to
compile it yourself, the binary version out there does not provide theora
decoding afaik. I am not familiar with vp3/theora differences, so I can't say
anything about vp3.
I use an Intel-based MacBookPro and compiling mplayer with ogg/theora/vorbis
support was really easy for me.
