Hi,
The CFP for the Foundations of Open Media Software workshop (FOMS) is
now available (see below).
Please note the submission / registration deadlines.
Developers of Xiph technologies are particularly invited to contribute
(sorry for the cross-postings).
If you know people that you think should attend and aren't aware of
the workshop yet, please do forward this CFP.
It will be another highly productive developer meeting - this year a
day longer to allow for more coding time.
See you there!
Cheers,
Silvia.

http://www.annodex.org/events/foms2010/
Important Dates:
Submissions open: 6th August 2009

Notification: 30th October 2009
What is FOMS:
Open media is a movement to promote free expression and innovation in
online video and audio.
Foundations of Open Media Software (FOMS) is a task-oriented developer
meeting. At FOMS, developers of open media software gather to
collaborate on code and plan future technology to enable a future of
open media.
Meet and discuss your plans for the next 12 months and forge
relationships with other developers to unwind the kinks, making open
media kick ever more ass.
This is a call for participation in the fourth FOMS meeting, which
will be held in Wellington, New Zealand over three days in January
leading up to linux.conf.au 2010.
The FOMS meeting is organised by developers for developers.
FOMS caters for developers with topics of interest in and related to:
* open media frameworks
* audio infrastructure
* web video (HTML5 audio/video) and crossover with open source
* open audio & video codecs and codec optimisation
* hardware support for open multimedia
* mobile video
* open audio & video players
* open audio & video editors
* open audio & video applications
* open metadata
* open media standards
The proximity to linux.conf.au allows us also to discuss audio- and
video-related issues with the developers of Open Source kernel,
networking and desktop systems.
Who should attend:
Individuals and organisations that work on and with open audio and
video software, specifications, and installations. FOMS is a unique
forum in which to talk with like-minded individuals about common
problems and attack and solve them.
A few of the projects that have come out of FOMS past are improvements
to liboggplay, including its Dirac support, the start of
libsydneyaudio, the encouragement of ffmpeg releases, approaches
toward patents, improvements to cortado, and many more.
How to attend:
FOMS attendees will be developers of open media software from the
community as well as professional delegates from companies with a
background and interest in this space. The attendance fee for
professional delegates is A$420 - community participation is free.
Attendees are expected to have a background in open media software.
Register / submit:
Register to participate in FOMS at
http://www.foms-workshop.org/foms2010/pmwiki.php/Main/Register. Also
mention if you require travel assistance.
Coincident Conferences:
Since FOMS2010 is happening the week before linux.conf.au, in the same
city, you may want to consider submitting a proposal for that
conference as well.
Travel Funding:
FOMS highly values its developer attendees. FOMS has provided a
limited number of sponsorships for travel funding for the best
developers since it's beginning. Further travel sponsorship can be
achieved by being an accepted speaker to linux.conf.au. The Linux
Foundation also has travel sponsorships to important events like FOMS
and LCA.
