        Funny you should ask. Over on the ffmpeg-devel list, we were
recently tossing around some alternative compression methods and BWT came
up. Possibly by itself or in combination with other techniques (e.g., BW
transform the differentially-encoded DC coeffs).

        It all seemed to come from the realization that all these video
codecs that we've become familiar with all seem to rely on the same small
clique of coding techniques.
