[speex-dev] improving microphone input

I've been toying around with Speex' 4kbs narrowband mode and have to admit
that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality - great job there! I noticed
one problem though, which seems to be cleanly solved in some way with the
XBox Live VoIP implementation - dealing with "clamped" input data when you
put the microphone too close to your mouth or are too "loud".
Are there clever ways to deal with this problem?
