[paranoia] problems ripping cds

Definately the same issue.  I encountered the same problem
on a Gigabyte MB with the same VIA chipset.  Using a
different CDRW drive fixed the issue, as also did putting
the same CDRW on the promise controller.  Can't remember if
upgrading the kernel helped as well... its been a while.
