Hi !

I think I have found where the problem takes place.

I have tried cdparanoia without grip and all seem to work very well.
I have tried my own application using libparanoia and it seems to work well
too.

So the problem comes from grip which refuse to extract tracks where I am not
root.

Does any other one has this problem too with grip and the scsi emulation ?

Anyway, many thanks for help !

Hi !

The "problem" is that you need write permissions on the sg device to write
commands to it. One approach would be to make the group of the CD sg
device something like "ripper" and add group write. Then set that group on
paranoia and set the setgid bit.

Does not work .. sorry .. I don't know why ... but it is :

Hardware : SONY CDRW 24x10x40

I have compiled the scsi emulation directly in the kernel.

Concerning your piece of advice I have :
- created a group "ripper"
- added my user to the group by editing /etc/group and added the name of the
user at the end of the line ripper
- chgrp ripper /dev/sg* ; chgrp ripper /dev/scd*
- chgrp ripper /usr/lib/libcdda_* ; chgrp ripper /usr/bin/cdparanoia
- chmod g+rw /dev/sg*
- chmod g+s /usr/lib/libcdda_*
- chmod g+s /usr/bin/cdparanoia

Well ... with all of that ... Grip doesn't find the drive with cdparanoia ou
paranoia. Nothing works as user but only the content of the disc.

Where Am I wrong ??

Is there any bug in the scsi emulation ????

And I come back on my main question : Why would I need to write on a device
when I only need to read datas to extract tracks ?? Why would libparanoai
needs such a feature ??

Thanks a lot for help !
