You didn't check the troubleshooting webpage.

"Can't find matching generic device" has a few possible causes, all of
which are covered.  As a summary, any of lack of Generic SCSI support,
missing /dev entries for /dev/sg* and permissions problems will
prevent cdparanoia from working.
