[paranoia] lite-on drive slow

i had the joy of borrowing a SCSI Plextor UltraPlex 40 recently, and
was able to sustain approx 7.5x with paranoia on, and around 14x with
paranoia turned off.

this was using one of the old Plextor firmwares.  it did very well at
generating clean rips on pristine discs without paranoia (at 14x).

most of my discs are treated well, but as i was more interested in
getting the data than benchmarking the drive, i don't really have
evidence about performance in sub-optimal scenarios.
