Hi, I apoligize if my question is too basic for this
list. I am trying to set up my music on my computer
using grip (on top of paranoia) and can not get
ripping to work.

When I try to rip and encode under grip (-v) I get,

and I get a tiny file where I would expect the mp3 to

If I run cdparanoia dircectly I get

/dev/cdrom exists but isn't accessible. By default,
cdparanoia stops searching for an accessible drive
here.
Consider using -s to force a more complete autosense
of the machine.

with the -s option I get

004: Unable to read table of contents header

Unable to open disc. Is there an audio CD in the
drive?

Note that I am running both prgrams as root(at least
till I can get it working there).

I actually had everything working this morning. I
ripped and encoded a few cds and then when I came back
to the computer durring the fourth cd there was an
error message which I wish I had paid more attention
to. It was a pop up window and said something like
WARNING some program appears to be broken, remove or
cancel. I stupidly pressed cancel and now I am in this
situation. I CAN still play cd's no problem.
I tried to reinsall cdparanoia and grip to get back to
what had previously been working fine.
(rpm -e and then -i).
which did not fix the problem

Any help would be gratfully apreciated
