[paranoia] scsi errors

I get a lot of the following messages, all of them have retry=0.

i_read error: sector=220480 length=13 retry=0
                 Sense key: 4 ASC: 15 ASCQ: 0
                 Transport error: Target hardware fault
                 System error: Input/output error

The tracks are extracted well (no sound glitches), but very slowly.
First few tracks are extracted without errors at all, but later ones have
such errors everywhere, starting with a specific position.

The drive is scsi CD-R
  Vendor: HP       Model: CD-Writer 6020   Rev: 1.07
  Type:   CD-ROM                           ANSI SCSI revision: 02

The system is alpha with linux-2.2.14.

cdparanoia version is 9.7.
