Hello --

I have two machines running paranoia III version 9.7. One is PII 266
with a 32x Mitsumi FX-320S (I think), the other is a laptop with a PIII
650, with an NEC CD-224E 24x.

No matter what I do, I can't get either of these drive to run anywhere
near full speed.
I have tried disabling paranoia and forcing the read speed, but this has
no effect what so ever. I have also tried using SCSI emulation, and
leaving out the ATAPI driver, but no joy.

The net effect of this is that (using krabber) the laptop can process a
WAV file faster than the CDROM can read the data from the CD drive.

The output of cdparanoia -vsQ is as follows.

cdparanoia III release 9.7 (December 13, 1999)

Looking in /var/log/messages gives no indication of any errors, the
problem seems to be that the drives will not get up to speed using
cdparanoia.

Can anyone help? Many thanks.
