I believe that this happens because the pre-roll is sent as quickly as possible by Icecast to the client, rather than at the rate of the audio. So it will take much less time to send than it does to play. Once it has finished sending the pre-roll, it starts sending the live audio. The player still has to play the pre-roll and will therefore be further behind the live audio when it gets to it. Note that I'm only guessing but it makes sense. My advice, use a shorter pre-roll. As a listener, this will get very annoying very quickly. 40 seconds is a long time to listen through a pre-roll if your connection drops for a second. I would limit it to 10 seconds max. BTW: At time of writing, the live audio is out of phase (see https://www.audiocheck.net/audiotests_polaritycheck.php for explanations and examples). this will cause the encoder to work much harder than it has to and will not sound as good as it should. It will also cause anyone listening through a single speaker not to be able to hear the announcer and anything else that is panned centre (e.g. song vocals). this is most likely caused by an incorrectly wired cable or an RTS plug which is not fully inserted into the jack. I can put 3 different clients on the delay can be a little annoying. From a simple each or reverb effect to a couple sec delay. And if you separate on remote network it can easily be 10 to 15 sec between clients. The delay is complicated mix of client's , network's and server's configuration and speed. Big burst is good to get a client buffers filled so you get little buffering when listing live. Twerking around the settings can make it better but can't be perfect. I find trying listen with the source in one ear and the stream with other, you can find where this delay is. And it will change overtime. It is NOT the official IceS. You would need to ask it's vendor for documentation on it if you really want to use it. > So I should probably remove that, and build it from source then. Seems like you have the debian-multimedia repo included. It contains packages under the names of Icecast related projects that are NOT Icecast Project's software. They are from another vendor. I suggest to install IceS from the official Debian repo. I first used https://zerossl.com/ with their online tools to create the cert. After a couple of manual renewals I downloaded their cmd line tool (le64.exe), for which I created a PowerShell script to automate the renewals. Keep in mind that the Icecast PEM certificate file is a combining of the private (domain) key and public key files. (public portion first in the file) I know you wanted step-by-step, but here are the simplified steps: * get your PEM SSL/TLS cert file * configure the Icecast.xml * in your tag, add this tag: 1 * consider the tag value you want * point to the SSL cert file in the tag: ./icecast.pem (modify for your path, "./" represents the Icecast install folder) * configure your router and network accordingly I used a combination of the two docs sites to learn about it: * http://icecast.org/docs/icecast-2.4.1/config-file.html * https://www.icecast.org/docs/icecast-trunk/config_file/ Don't expect it to be a 5 minute job ... In sc trans i can give each deejay an priority, so i give the nonstop (auto dj), offsite an priority of 1, and the deejays 2, so they can login over the autodj. I was testing with ices and liquidsoap but i cant find the setting to give the dj's a priority. Shoutcast transcoder 2 offers an function to broadcast 3 bitrates, i'm using 192,64 and 32. Those POKE-requests are made by modern libshout when probing the server for supported options. It is done this way as modern OPTIONS interface is not supported by older servers as well as non-HTTP servers (such as Shoutcast). So with a modern source those messages are perfectly normal and can be ignored. If the stream is interrupted (so some audio has played in the client) and then starts again the client is forced to restart the stream but it will still play the cached bit until it runs out. I've seen this manifested in a couple of ways. I can get around it by cache-busting the URL (e.g., myfile.mp3?2529374), but I'd rather not have to do that. The reason this is a mystery to me is because the server response header is: Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store Pragma: no-cache Shouldn't this tell the client to not cache any of the audio stream? I am well aware that this is an issue that lies with the music player (listener agent) used by the listener. When a listener connects to the stream, sometimes it appears as two connections to the stream from the same IP address. This may last only a few seconds, or sometimes the listener may remain connected with two instances of the IP address. I?d like some advice on what is best practice in dealing with these duplicate connections. Many years ago, when I ran a shoutcast server, a developer wrote a script for me that would automatically kick one of the duplicate connections, so that only the first connection remained tuned in to the stream. I was considering reusing this script with the ice cast server. Would anyone advise against this practice? If so, for what reasons and would you advise an alteravie?
