Perhaps it is a Karl Heyes feature addition, but I can access my Icecast KH server with http and https URL's on the same port.

You *can* run it on any port. 80/443 is clearly preferred and servers or IP addresses, especially IPv6, are cheap.
If I'd have to run a production environment, I wouldn't spend a second considering that matter and spin up a second machine or IP address.
