I know the Icecast mailing lists were at least set up to require manual 
approval of non-subscribed postings.  so either it has been changed or the 
address(s) concerned are now subscribed.  Either should be easy enough to 
deal with.

You are having dependency problems, which means certain libraries are
missing and conflicting with those that exist already.  RPM hell,
basically.

If possible for you, I recommend that you switch to a distro without
RPM like Debian or Ubuntu.

with fedora packages, you should really use yum eg

Also fedora might have an icecast2 binary. "yum install icecast2" would 
be my guess

Hallo everyone in the Icecast project.
First of all i want to apologize in case this message should not be in 
this list but i believe this is the place to answer my question.
I know only a little about icecast server. I would like to build up a 
live radio station. The concept is something like : the server is set up 
in some place and all producers broadcast themselves from their place, 
so there is no common studio for every one in the radio station (maybe 
producers don't even know each other and live in totally diferrent 
places). The question is how to change from one producer to the next one 
when the first finishes his/her broadcast ? For example lets say John is 
the first producer and Mary is the second. John is logged on to the 
server with his client and its about time to stop broadcasting. If he 
closes his connection so as Mary to continue there would be a stop in 
the broadcasting and ofcourse listeners would have to "reload" the station.
Is this right? If i am wrong , could someone explain some solution to 
this "gap between producers"?

You'll want to use a scenario with fallbacks for that.
If you want totally gapless transitions you should have some fixed loop 
that is locally fed to the server (ices without reencoding does a 
perfect job there)as the lowest fallback. Above that e.g. one mountpoint 
per dj and on the top the primary mount to which listeners should connect.

There are several options.  For basic sound card input, I recommend Oddcast 
V3 stand-alone edition from www.oddsoci.org

I use it all the time and find it works well.

You have a lot of this:

(/neeraj/song-dump) attempted to login with invalid or missing password

with changing mountpoint names in the brackets.

In the beginning you used /example1.ogg which worked fine as for the 
login but the source client disconnected immediately. The reason for 
that might be in the ices.log:

You seem to have a lot of things going wrong there.

But the error messages speak for themselves. So please try to figure it out with those hints and always check the end of the log if it still doesn't work.

Hi guys ,

I'm using with satisfaction icecast2 for streaming vorbis and theora 
using oggfwd.

Now i want to try the authentication of icecast and I'm following this 
guide:

I'm using the HTPASSWD Listener Authentication  , and I add this line to 
my icecast config files:

You should really place a full path in the setting therefore not relying 
on the current directory which seems to be not available to icecast for 
writing. The user running icecast needs read/write access to the file 
and directory the "filename" refers to.

That is correct. Answers for that see in my last message.

In addition you are using an outdated version of icecast. Consider 
upgrading to at least version 2.3.1 if that package is available from 
your distribution.

The only limitation we apply for mountpoints is it has to be something 
other than /admin/

Players may require further limitations like extensions eg .ogg for ogg 
streams.  The actual mountpoint details are dynamically created within 
the icecast process.

Mountpoints in icecast have nothing to do with the apache web server, 
oracle database server, openoffice or any other unrelated application. 
The only way apache could be involved is if you were to pass off 
listener authentication to php or similar.

Hi guys ,

I'm using icecast 2.3.1 and all works very well  .

Now I'm reading the icecast documentation for the advanced feature , 
like the intro for a mountpoint.

I set it , and when I connct to the stream I see the intro , but later 
the intro finished (it during about 45 sec) , the real streaming doesn't 
arrive!!!

If  i remove the intro tag , the stream works well.

I post my config files , hoping that is usefull.

There is a few possible approaches here:
group A - ices2 playlist mode:
there are a few scripts around that will feed ices the next file to play 
and have a web-interface. Tunequeue is one of them. For the others use 
google.

group B - other source clients with web-interface:
IIRC there are a few around that have web-interface-plugins:
xmms2
mpd (beware, some recent versions had problems with connecting to icecast)
vlc
...

A simple solution, but maybe not the best one, would be to use a
fallback mount. Basically, one broadcaster (i.e. source) would
disconnect when he finishes. Then the listeners would all hear some sort
of 'hold music'. Then when another source connected, all listeners would
automatically switch over to hear that. The broadcasters would have to
manage the timing themselves with this method - waiting until the
previous show finished before trying to connect their own, but I imagine
it would work fine.
