[Icecast] downloading vs. streaming from browser

hi all!

my icecast server works great, but..if I link the server address on a web 
page, the browser (ANY browser) starts downloading instead streaming from the 
relevant player (VNC in my case). the target is a m3u file with some .ogg 
files local paths inside.
launching directly vnc http://.../myplaylist.m3u works fine.

no way for me to get it working so...help please :-))
