i would like to know if there's a software to create a dj station taking the input from mic and stream with icecast, also i need to know if is possibe to mix mic input and ogg file and stream it togheter with icecast

Muse (open-source, gtk-based) can do that: <http://muse.dyne.org/>.
Liquidsoap <http://savonet.sf.net/wiki/Liquidsoap> (open-source,
scriptable daemon) can do that too, with more automation capabilities.
Liquidsoap relays live shows which can be emitted by another instance
of liquidsoap (not much tested, only alsa support) or another tool
(e.g. muse or darkice). Concerning automation, it has a full range of
operator to schedule tracks: playlists, fallback, random, scheduler,
user-request queues, addition, etc.

Have you already installed an icecast server on your machine? If so just
add the following lines to your icecast.xml, restart the server, setup your
streaming client and stream!

<mount>
  <mount-name>/mount_path</mount-name>
  <username>source</username>
  <password>password</password>
</mount>

auch zum kommerziellen gebraucht. icecast ist ein streaming-server, in etwa 
vergleichbar zu shoutcast. 
ein icecast server kann also jederzeit kostenfrei aufgesetzt und auch 
kommerziell ge- / vermietet werden.

f?r weitergehende konfiguration ist es leider unerl??lich, die

I have problem with streaming...

I use:
Linux Fedora Core 4 - 2.6.17-1.2142_FC4smp
Icecast 2.3.1 - installed from yum
ices 0.4 - installed from source
vlc 0.8.5 - installed from yum

Im starting vlc like - 
......'#duplicate{dst="std{access=file,mux=raw,url=/usr/local/etc/ices/fifo/hitfm.mp3}",select="program=21",dst="std{access=file,mux=raw,url=/usr/local/etc/ices/fifo/dfm.mp3}"...


and test fifo - cat hitfm.mp3 > hit - and i see filesize is increase...
after that i starting icecast and ices, and try listen radio but i can 
listen only 2 of 10 station !
 but all fifo work done.
in ices logfile i see:

didn't catch the first part of your explanation, but... running
multiple ices on same box, you should check if each ices has its own
log file. Just in case...

Hi and thank you
currently I managed to get icecast running but I cant get source client
connect

I use oggcast v3
I use ip port which are probably correct because web admin app is showing
 and   mountpoint.ogg

Do you have any idea were should I look for the error

streams to my Pocket PC cell phone and it has worked flawlessly. The mobile
player I use is TCPMP. It is open-source and available for both the Palm and
Pocket PC/Windows Mobile OSs. Available at http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/, as
well as other places (the site appears to be down as I'm writing this); just
Google TCPMP.

  I am kadhiravan New to this list.
   
  Just I have installed icecast2/ices2 in my system..
   
  Realy it is working fine. So ready for enhanement. So i came out with question.
   
  1.How to run diff playlist same time.
  2.How to enable jumping to next song for clients.
  3.Is it possible to set more mount points.

Welcome kadhiravan,

Good questions. I'm not a guru and may be wrong, but here's my understanding
of the answers:

1. You able to stream two seperate playlists by running two seperate
instances of icecast2/ices2 each with there own distinct config files,
playlists and mountpoints.

2. As your stream is a broadcast and not on-demand playback, I'm not sure if
it's possible for clients to jump ahead or back or anything else other than
take the stream as it's broadcast. 

3. Yes, although I believe each instance of icecast2/ices2 can only work
with one mountpoint at a time.

That doesn't hurt. It simply works.

For simple "skip this song" functionality you could send a HUP (kill
-HUP $pid_of_desired_ices_process). This could be done by a simple bash
script run as cgi on your webserver.
Note that the ices2 process will jump to the next song. This means
_everybody_ listening will hear it jump to the next song.

If you want something more you'll need to install something like
http://tunequeue.sourceforge.net/about.html

Icecast2 supports having many mount points. There's no specific limit.
Read the documentation for further info.

  I tried with diff playlist and config file for each instance of ices process. It is working..
   
  Initially it is support only 2 instance, after i changed the source directive in the icecast.xml file it is supporting more than the default one.
   
  .Fine..
   
  Now as Thomas to;d i downloaded the tunequeue tar file from sourceforge.
  But According to the INSTALL file there is no seprate Utils.tar, cgi-bin in the tarball..
   
  So i there is a road block.

Streaming is buffered, there is less you can do about this.
The only thing I see is recuding the clients buffer, but since connection is 
tcp, there will stil be delay.

The correct solution is to use some udp streaming that all clients may receive 
at the same time. This can be achieved with vlc for instance.

what is metadata? 
metadata is data containing information about the stream. that could be the 
name of the radiostation, the currently playing song and artist and much more 
if you like. 
is it helpful to users? 
oh, yes! imagine you are listening to a station and with the help of metadata 
you can display the currently playing song on the webpage (with some deeper 
web programming skills required), users can see it in their player, you can 
generate an automated playlist to put on the web containing songs played at a 
special show ... 
especially the aspect that users are able to see what is currently playing is 
highly important. 
and there you are why refreshing metadata is important: to update them when a 
new song starts.
