Ah. You must be talking about icecast 1.x. I was talking about icecast2. What 
I said is not at all accurate for icecast 1.x, you should ignore it.

For mp3 streaming, there is generally no way to accurately determine this with 
either icecast 1.x or icecast 2 (since they both do mp3 metadata using the 
same technique as shoutcast, which is poorly designed and insufficient for 
accurate determination of track boundaries). 

For vorbis streaming, track boundaries are clearly defined, and this 
information is extracted by icecast2.
