Not really. Use winamp to connect to your stream. Save bookmark on
your stream as m3u on desktop. Shut down winamp fire up WMP 6.4 or
newer and drag m3u into it and watch your stream getting played by
windows media player ;-) Websolution do the same but place m3u on
webserver instead.

I noticed a strange bug with poor quality mp3 (< 64 kbps). When a good
mp3 ( > 128) is streamed after a poor one, the client is disconnected
from the channel at the end of the poor one. It seems to happen with any client.
Is it normal ?

Message-ID: Yes it is. This is a short-coming of the MP3 format. In practice, if the
sampling rate and channels are the same, you might be OK, not sure.
Certainly, different sampling rates/channels will kil clients.
Note that Vorbis is designed to cope with this nicely by letting you chain
ogg streams together.

Subject: [icecast] trouble connecting to icecast2/ices
Message-ID: <3CFFB8FC.2050201@qx.net>
I just built icecast and ices from CVS source. The compile went fine.
But I'm having trouble connecting to the server and hearing anything.
In one shell, I start icecast with:
src/icecast -c conf/icecast.xml
That appears to start things off fine.
Then in another shell, I start ices:
src/ices conf/ices-playlist.xml
At this point, icecast prints some text:
connection added....
DEBUG: source logging in
connection added....
DEBUG: source logging in
ices prints nothing.
I then attempt to tune into the stream with Winamp on my Win2k laptop at
work with http://198.93.72.237:8000/. Winamp says "could not connect." I
try http://198.93.72.237:8000/example1.ogg to be specific about the

Subject: [icecast] problem remotely loginning into web admin interface
Message-ID: <010c01c20f3f$885c45a0$3301a8c0@robeb>
*This message was transferred with a trial version of CommuniGate(tm) Pro*
Here are the steps I've taken to open access to the web admin interface for
icecast. If anyone can find mistakes I have made or a step I have left out
please let me know. I have been unable to access the interface.
In my hosts.allow I have...
ALL: *.mydomain.com
In my hosts.deny I have...
ALL: ALL
icecast_admin: ALL EXCEPT*.mydomain.com
In the mount.aut files I have...
/group:mygroup
/admin:mygroup
/oper:mygroup
In the groups.aut file I have...
mygroup:host
Now here am I wondering if you can specify a host name like
myhost.mydomain.com? If not, how would icecast be able to identify a remote
login to the web interface? All my config files are in /etc in the icecast
base dir. I am starting icecast from the dir w/ just the "icecast" command.
Appears to have no problems finding the config files. I get a
"HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden" whenever I try to access the web interface w/
Explorer and a "Kicking unknown 1 [host.mydomain.com] [No mountfile found]"
in my icecast log files. I have read the manual have searched the message
achieves. I have found some posts but nothing that has remedied my problem.
There might be an outside source affecting this (my firewall *is* configured
to allow all incoming HTTP TCP request from my LAN) but if anyone knows what
might be causing I would appreciate a response.
- Thank you

From: "Gulliver Riviera" I know this is somehow off-topic but I think it is important to bring to
your attention that the Ebone European network is ready to collapse ...
http://live.ebone.net/
350 people (I am one of those) have been fired last week in Hoeilaart.
50% of the European Internet traffic and 100.000 customers will be affected.
Unbelievable but true.

Subject: [icecast] Problem with icecast / liveice
Message-ID: <1023638261.9731.8.camel@belkelel.dyndns.org>
Hi there.
I have a strange problem using both icecast and liveice.
I started icecast as unprivileged user and got ne errors.
If I try to connect liveice as source I can choose between
1. if I start it with the same unprivileged username it starts up,
presents it's "gui" and I hear the sounds of my microphone, but it won't
even try to connect to the server.
2. if I start it as root it connects to the server (no errors) and
appears to work. But the clients won't hear anything and it won't show
up with it's "gui"/play the input.
Thanks for your help,
Ben

Hi!
We use icecast 1.3.11 and darkice.
How can I limit the time or traffic per client(=listener) connected to
your server?
Some of them are listening to your programm day and night although when
they are not in front of their pc ...

Subject: [icecast] Lose 17 Pounds In 7 Days ML
Message-ID: <000025e5670e$00007d6c$00004d47@citybeat.com>
Hey there,
If you're like me, you've tried EVERYTHING to lose
weight.? I know how you feel - the special diets,
miracle pills, and fancy exercise equipment never helped
me lose the pounds I need lose either.? It seemed like
the harder I worked at it, the less weight I lost - until
I heard about 'Extreme Power Plus'.
You're probably thinking to yourself, "Oh geez, not another
miracle diet pill!"? Like you, I was skeptical at first, but
my sister said it helped her lose 23 pounds in just 2 weeks,
so I told her I'd give it a try.? I mean, there was nothing
to lose except a lot of weight!? Let me tell you, it was
the best decision I've ever made. PERIOD. Six months later,
as I'm writing this message to you, I've gone from 355 pounds
to 210 pounds, and I haven't changed my exercise routine or diet
at all.? Yes, I still eat pizza, and lots of it!
I was so happy with the results that I contacted the manufacturer
and received permission to resell it - at a HUGE discount.?I feel
the need to help other people lose weight like I did, because it
does so much for your self-esteem, not to mention your health.
I am giving you my personal pledge that 'Extreme Power Plus'
absolutely WILL WORK FOR YOU. 100 % Money-Back GUARANTEED!
If you are frustrated with trying other products, without having
any success, and just not getting the results you were promised,
then I recommend the only product that worked for me -
'EXTREME POWER PLUS'!
You're probably asking yourself, "Ok, so how does this stuff
actually work?"
Extreme Power Plus contains Lipotropic fat burners and ephedra which
is scientifically proven to increase metabolism and cause rapid
weight loss. No "hocus pocus" in these pills - just RESULTS!!!
Here is the bottom line ...
I can help you lose 10-15 pounds per week naturally, without
exercising and without having to eat rice cakes all day.?
Just try it for one month - there's pounds to lose and confidence
to gain!? You will lose weight fast - GUARANTEED.? This is my
pledge to you.?

Is this what you're looking for...
1. DO: Want to work from home?
2. DO: Want to build yourself an income you can be proud of?
3. DO: Want to be able to tell your friends and family about what
you're doing... instead of keeping it a secret so they don't laugh (I've been
there, I know)?
4. DO: Want to be able to produce a copy of your check to anyoneinterested in this business?
5. DO: Want to have A Monthly Income which can be passed on when your
time is up?
6. DO: Want to be in a team business which gives you the chance to
help other people AND get paid for it?
7. NOT: Want to be scammed?
8. NOT: Want to spend all your time recruiting?
9. NOT: Want to talk to people on the phone?
10. NOT: Wanting to be involved with a 'get rich quick' program?
Please, do yourself a favor and check this out. It's absolutely FREE

IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE! This is an International business
with people all over the world (over 160 different countries involved)!
Join our TEAM and you will succeed! We have the people, the knowledge and the
ability to guide you... step by step... to a profitable business.
I AM NOT going to hype you up with information trying to get you involved.
In fact, if you think you're going to make money overnight with this,
please do NOT click on the link. Simply remove yourself from this list
(instructions below).
The difference between this online business and an offline business is that
the tools you need for proven success... are given to you for FREE after
you decide to create your own successful business! To verify what I'm
saying, ask any local business person if they were given the tools they needed
to make their business the success it is, for free when they started out.
They'll laugh at the question!
You DO NOT need...
1. A small fortune to get started.
2. A lot of "business knowledge" or "business contacts" to get started.
3. To commute anywhere, talk to anyone or buy any items to get started.
Everyday hundreds of people join for free and get the free information they
need to succeed. When they see that they too can make money with this
business, they get involved. There are already over 2 million people who
have joined for free to check things out. This business has been thriving
for over five years!
Do you have...
A. An internet connection.
B. One or two hours a day to build your business.
C. The ability to ask and receive all the help you need to succeed.
D. The drive to succeed.
E. The need for extra income each and every month.
Then YOU TOO can make MORE money for you and your family and you too
can run your own profitable business!
This is probably the only business in the world where you personally reap all
the rewards from your personal efforts and not those above you getting it
instead of you (i.e. your boss).
I want to help YOU to make money on the 'net as part of our successful
T.E.A.M. You owe it to yourself to at least look. Click on the link

Hey Richard!
I don't mean to be a mean here, but why not try searching the archives

You have enough keywords by the look of your last posts, this isn't a

Subject: [icecast] few questions about icecast/ices
Message-ID: <20020625114213.37492933.funk@softhome.net>
I have a few questions about icecast and ices.
Icecast:
Isn't there supposed to be a web interface, that tells what's currently playing and whatnot (not the admin interface, one for users)?. i setup my server, and was assuming it would be at http://www.mysite.com:8000/ but it's not. (http://www.mysite.com:8000/admin is the admin interface, also in that, the links to change the settings, don't work, they say their missing a value or something like that).
Is the re-encoder part of icecast, or my streamer?
Ices:
Is there any documentation on how to write a playlist for ices? is there a default playlist plugin that functions like the SHOUT one? or do i have to write my own playlist plugin regardless.
(also, is there an icecast irc channel?)
Thanks for any help,
Jeff Utter

Subject: [icecast] can i direct yp listing to a relay?

('binary' encoding is not supported, stored as-is)
Hi!
I'm using Ices to feed an Icecast server.
I'd like to be able to send the ip:port of a relayer to the yp directory so more folks could connect. I tried setting the "Force Server Name" to 1 and entering the ip and port umber of the relay as the server name in icecast, but that doesn't seem to do the trick.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
g.

Ok, sorry to reply to my own post like this.. but i got it figured out, how to stream with ices using the builtin playlist module.
Now my problem is, however, when i try to reencode with ices, it sounds like garbled junk, well, chaning the bitrate works fine, but if i change the # of channels, or the sampling rate, it sounds terrible, it sounds like a jerky robot, any ideas?
Also, i'm still unsure about the webpage thing.

Hi,
at first I must say that I have no answers for you, but the same problems
with this web-interface.

I found /list.cgi. It uses templates/mountlist.html which looks like a
"Icecast Administration Admin Page" :>
Another question that came up is:
Can I force a special streamer "foo" always to be heard on a specified
mounpoint "/bar" ?
I found the users.aut, groups.aut and mounts.aut but I'm not really sure
what they do, or if they do something at all ..

They do. They are meant to be used for password protection the
streams. You can even use them to protect your webadmininterface like
/list.cgi etc :)

OK. Theres a DJ "Foo" feeding my server. "Foo" only plays Pop. What I want
is:
If DJ "Foo" connects to my server, he is available at
http://myserver/pop and NOT (only) at http://myserver/icy_0 (or _1, or _2).

Which streams ? From or To my server ?
If feeding with winamp and this Shoutcast-Plugin I can specify a password
but no user. I figured out, that this password has to be the "encoder_password"
from the icecast.conf. I thought it's possible to use different passwords to
access different mountpoints but this seems to be wrong.

At this time I would be happy to see them not protected :)

Tell him to use proper plugin to stream =)
There is no actually good way to do that, because incoming shout streams
mountpoints are named in the order that streams connect.
I did this by connecting my source streams in order, first 128k then 56k and
24k.
then i did aliases /hi /med /lo
point to /icy_0, /icy_1 and /icy_2

Subject: [icecast] ices on FreeBSD 4.6

Message-ID: <000e01c21d70$27406730$1b914e18@sanctuary>
howdy all,
is anyone successfully running ices on FreeBSd 4.6 ???
is ices dependant on libshout to send a stream to icecast/shoutcast ?
my ices log file shows this almost instantly :
Error during send : Libshout reported send error, disconnecting : Libshout
socket error.
and then it takes out my shoutcast process...
I've tried installing the libshout port for FreeBSD and configuring
ices --with-libshout=path to libs (yes i am using correct path).. but i
get errors about it not finding the libs...
letting configure setup ices with builtin libshout compiles fine.. but
yields the above errors.
is this a symptom of running ices with shoutcast instead of icecast ?
I've read some threads where this combination doesn't seem to produce any
problems (except when trying to list servers on the dir. yadda yada...).
direction anyone ?

Hi,
is it possible to restrict the access to a source to certain user or to
certain IP? Dynamically? How?
The idea is to allow everyone to listen a 28 kbit stream but to allow
only authorized person to access to a 128 kbit stream.

My network is correct, nobody use it and I can transfer files at (about)

Short answer in French, asking the poster to ask
questions in french privately and giving some info
Bonsoir,
