Well, intro MP3 is easy. Put in a URL to your intro file, then the URL to your stream. In other words, have 2 playlist entries. as for the backup, maybe use the default mountpoint? > ANd WHY can this ***** Win Media Player/Real Player active X Plugin not Play > the Streams > (Real Player (Plugin V8+) only plays what it buffers, Media Player (Plugin > VErsion 6.X) does en Error!? hmmm. Yes it is. This is a short-coming of the MP3 format. In practice, if the sampling rate and channels are the same, you might be OK, not sure. Certainly, different sampling rates/channels will kil clients. Note that Vorbis is designed to cope with this nicely by letting you chain ogg streams together. Geoff.

In-Reply-To: <1023399833.3693.5.camel@badamiga> Message-ID: Hi: I'm guessing you mean prebuffering. The reason why shoutcast seems to be blindingly fast is that shoudcast buffers the stream that it sends its clients. This is done to reduce prebuffer times as well as reduce choppiness in the stream. It does mean however that clients will always be a good distance behind what is actually being streamed. How far behind depends on the bitrate. Geoff.

The stream generated by liveice is twice as fast as the original input. At the same time the pitch is normal. So when a client connects, it play the stream very fast, interrupts to wait for the next burst of stream, starts again, and so on. When I am using liveice in MIXER-mode (with the -M switch) and/or with playlists, everything works fine, the stream has got the right speed. What's going wrong here? I am using the newest versions of icecast, liveice and lame, together with alsa on a SuSE-8.0 Greets, Alex. --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'icecast-request at xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. If anyone can find mistakes I have made or a step I have left out please let me know. I have been unable to access the interface. In my hosts.allow I have... ALL: *.mydomain.com In my hosts.deny I have... ALL: ALL icecast_admin: ALL EXCEPT*.mydomain.com In the mount.aut files I have... /group:mygroup /admin:mygroup /oper:mygroup In the groups.aut file I have... mygroup:host Now here am I wondering if you can specify a host name like myhost.mydomain.com? If not, how would icecast be able to identify a remote login to the web interface? All my config files are in /etc in the icecast base dir. I am starting icecast from the dir w/ just the "icecast" command. Appears to have no problems finding the config files. I get a "HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden" whenever I try to access the web interface w/ Explorer and a "Kicking unknown 1 [host.mydomain.com] [No mountfile found]" in my icecast log files. I have read the manual have searched the message achieves. I have found some posts but nothing that has remedied my problem. There might be an outside source affecting this (my firewall *is* configured to allow all incoming HTTP TCP request from my LAN) but if anyone knows what might be causing I would appreciate a response. - Thank you

I'm finally needing a playlist. I'd like to create the playlist from data in a MySQL database. We'd like to be able to write the playlist out from our own code, and have the stream go on forever. The MP3 files are on our website, which is a Win2k machine. This machine does run Perl, and that's a likely candidate for the playlist coding. Any suggestions on what to stream with? WinAMP with some set of plugins? If so, which plugins? Automatic display of current playlist would be a nice bonus. -- Bryan Walls My words are not NASA policy. Just a wild guess, since I never enabled the YP services ... Afaik, shoutcast.com and its affiliates refuse to list Icecast servers, a decision that is a bit newer that the last revision of the default configfile. It looks like it's simply timing out for a couple eons. Does this also happen when you use a directory server that *definitely* allows your Icecast to be listed, i.e. you know that it does?

When I turned it on, I got alot of "You can run, but you can't hide" lines over and over in the icecast.out file. I tracked it down in the code and found src/admin.c was printing the message. The function handle_admin function has a while loop that prints the message which is llike this. while (con->food.admin->alive && thread_alive (mt)) { /* con->sock will be STDOUT, so special case reading to use STDIN */ if (fd_read_line_nb(fileno(stdin), line, BUFSIZE)) handle_admin_command (con, line, ice_strlen (line)); else fd_write_line (con->sock, "You can run, but you can't hide!"); } I added a system ("sleep 5"); before the fd_write_line... function call and it brought my CPU percentage down to nothing. Icecast: Isn't there supposed to be a web interface, that tells what's currently playing and whatnot (not the admin interface, one for users)?. i setup my server, and was assuming it would be at http://www.mysite.com:8000/ but it's not. (http://www.mysite.com:8000/admin is the admin interface, also in that, the links to change the settings, don't work, they say their missing a value or something like that). Is the re-encoder part of icecast, or my streamer? Ices: Is there any documentation on how to write a playlist for ices? is there a default playlist plugin that functions like the SHOUT one? or do i have to write my own playlist plugin regardless. (also, is there an icecast irc channel?) Thanks for any help, Jeff Utter --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'icecast-request at xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. Message-ID: <20020625204054.EE46B3942B2@mail.serve.com> ('binary' encoding is not supported, stored as-is) Hi! I'm using Ices to feed an Icecast server. I'd like to be able to send the ip:port of a relayer to the yp directory so more folks could connect. I tried setting the "Force Server Name" to 1 and entering the ip and port umber of the relay as the server name in icecast, but that doesn't seem to do the trick. Any suggestions? Now my problem is, however, when i try to reencode with ices, it sounds like garbled junk, well, chaning the bitrate works fine, but if i change the # of channels, or the sampling rate, it sounds terrible, it sounds like a jerky robot, any ideas? Also, i'm still unsure about the webpage thing. > I have a few questions about icecast and ices. > > Icecast: > Isn't there supposed to be a web interface, that tells what's currently playing and whatnot (not the admin interface, one for users)?. i setup my server, and was assuming it would be at http://www.mysite.com:8000/ but it's not. OK. Theres a DJ "Foo" feeding my server. "Foo" only plays Pop. What I want is: If DJ "Foo" connects to my server, he is available at http://myserver/pop and NOT (only) at http://myserver/icy_0 (or _1, or _2). > > > I found the users.aut, groups.aut and mounts.aut but I'm not really sure > > what they do, or if they do something at all .. > > They do. I figured out, that this password has to be the "encoder_password" from the icecast.conf. I thought it's possible to use different passwords to access different mountpoints but this seems to be wrong. > You can even use them to protect your webadmininterface like > /list.cgi etc :) At this time I would be happy to see them not protected :) Thomas --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'icecast-request at xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. Tell him to use proper plugin to stream =) There is no actually good way to do that, because incoming shout streams mountpoints are named in the order that streams connect. I did this by connecting my source streams in order, first 128k then 56k and 24k. then i did aliases /hi /med /lo point to /icy_0, /icy_1 and /icy_2 > Which streams ? I've tried installing the libshout port for FreeBSD and configuring ices --with-libshout=path to libs (yes i am using correct path).. but i get errors about it not finding the libs... letting configure setup ices with builtin libshout compiles fine.. but yields the above errors. is this a symptom of running ices with shoutcast instead of icecast ? I've read some threads where this combination doesn't seem to produce any problems (except when trying to list servers on the dir. yadda yada...). direction anyone ? rem

> it isn't a long time i 'm on the mailing list, i hope someone is speaking > french, because i don't write very well others languages about technical > probl?ms... > no hace ademas tiempo que soy en la mailing list, espero que alguien hablas > frances porque las problemas technicas en otras lengua me da muchas > dificultas... > > Je suis un newbie en tout ce qui est serveur radio sur internet.
