Couple of solutions you can check out.
Liveice (http://star.arm.ac.uk/~spm/software/liveice.html) will do
it. It has been out for some time. I had problems with it under
earlier versions of FreeBSD as liveice was written for Linux in
mind and there were some problems with how liveice was talking to
piped files.
I wrote a perl script that also does live MP3 streaming to a pre-2.0
icecast and shoutcast servers. You can find it at
http://www.lns.com/papers/mixice.
