[icecast] VBR on icecast?

is there anyway to stream VBR files using linux icecast server and shout
or similar streamer? i have a bunch of things encoded VBR by
audiocatalyst, and if i stream them via shout, there are lots of breaks
and dropouts...

orry if this is a FAQ, but it aint in the FAQ on the icecast site!

any ideas?
