[icecast] directory_touch_xa knocks me down

I'm using icecast 1.3.10 and ices 0.1.0.  I'm streaming through
adsl which seems to do about 350Kb up.  Everything is fine and
stable for up to the 2 simultaneous subscribers I've tested so
far.  But...  when I uncommented a directory server (yp.icecast.org)
I see in the log:

    directory_touch_xa([yp.icecast.org:80]) completed...server id = 69

and about the same time the clients hiccup and disconnect.  Even when
there
is only one client. Does the directory update consume significant
bandwidth?
I've turned the updates off ofr now.
